Now I don't mind a good math exercise. I'm studying Forensic Chemistry so am not completely useless with figures (we often joke that we have to be kind to the biologists who can't perform a simple 10^9 to 10^7 conversion whenever we do a blood count) but correct me if I'm wrong but this is a game right? How can this be a sensible way to approach the mechanics of something designed to be entertaining?
Not only is this unfathomable to anyone who doesn't study hard core mathematics/statistics but you don't even have a way to tell the player if he has achieved the desired effect. What's more the percentage stacking is grossly biased to enhancement modules over reduction modules. To those that don't know - try adding two Militia Cardiac Regs to any suit and you'll see that it adds more than 50% stamina (Light frame with 200 base stamina becomes something like 310) - While modules that reduce profile or precision decrease effectiveness more rapidly as you stack -because your reducing the already reduced profile again and not the base. What annoys me is that the modules don't even say they have a stacking penalty, which clearly they do on top of this effect (Above stamina should be 312.5 with the way it's stacked). Ok i know damage mods were abused in the past and that's why there's penalties, but that can be vague. So long as we know we're adding some power to your weapons I don't think we care exactly how much. But something like profile with a known target precision on the scanners that your trying to defeat it makes life very difficult.
Ok I'm no game designer and I assume that these are a fundamental part of the system and so changing it would be a major undertaking, so why not display these stats in the character sheet? Hell, I don't think I would have even noticed if I didn't have to guess, get it wrong and then go hunting for it on the forums. I didn't even care about scanner, a corp mate mentioned it and I was just curious. (though I do feel sorry for my Min scout, aside from potential damage output the Gal has it beat)
In short, I get enough statistics in work. I don't want it when I get home and try to relax |
